Justin Floyd
Justin Floyd, also known by his playful moniker "Yestin," is an emerging writer and director from Southern LA whose work is poised to capture both indie and commercial audiences. His stories, often underpinned by the nuanced theme of parenting, explore a universal human value in ways that feel organic yet deeply resonant. As a genre-agnostic storyteller, Floyd gravitates towards dark comedies.
Despite his achievements, Floyd’s best-kept secret is that none of his films have yet screened in competition at a major film festival, a milestone he's eager to reach. Outside of filmmaking, his passions extend to playing the piano and delving into philosophical biographies. The interplay of melody and metaphysics reflects the intellectual depth and curiosity that informs his creative process.
His latest flick, "MALLEABLE," went on to screen in select theaters in front of Jordan Peel’s NOPE and received a "FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION" nod at the 2023 Academy Awards. He is a 2022 Hillman Grad Rising Voices S2 fellow, but before that, he was awarded the ACADEMY ACCELERATOR PROGRAM and given the opportunity to pitch to studio executives. Two of his screenplays have been acquired by studios and are being developed into feature films. In 2017, Warner Bros. dubbed him an Emerging Film Director, while HBO snagged his short "RESURRECT." And back in 2016, SUNDANCE Ignite Fellowship welcomed him. But it all started in 2015 when his short film "THE CENTER'' landed him on stage at the Academy Awards as part of "Team Oscar.”
